Printers have become more than just office equipment, they're now part of the broader IT ecosystem, with direct ties to network security. As threats continue to evolve, so does the technology designed to defend against them. To stay ahead, Rhyme team members Kendall Steinhoff, Director of Sales & Marketing, and Gregg Bushner, Client Services Manager, recently attended Xerox’s Security Training. They returned with practical insights into how Xerox is strengthening print security—from firmware safeguards to fleet-wide compliance tools—and how these solutions can benefit organizations of all sizes.
We sat down with Kendall and Gregg to hear what stood out, what’s next, and why this training matters now more than ever.
Gregg: The wealth of knowledge in the room stood out to me. One of the people we met is the Chief Engineer of Xerox working directly with all things security including overseeing firmware development. That was impressive!
Kendall: As printers become more integrated into network infrastructures, their role in cybersecurity cannot be overlooked. Staying informed about vulnerabilities and adhering to best practices are essential steps in safeguarding against potential threats.
Gregg: Workplace Cloud Fleet Management – This cloud-based software allows for proactive firmware updates and security compliancy all from one console for a fleet of Xerox devices.
Gregg: I knew of their attention to detail regarding security but the fact that you can easily configure, monitor, and have alerts set to force security and compliance is a game changer!
Gregg: The hands-on portion of the training when we were able to see how easy it was to create the security profiles, monitor a fleet, and provide notifications and resolutions when something changes. For instance, a port for USB printing or scanning was enabled when the security policy is to have that disabled.
Gregg: Xerox is known for their security in enterprise sized and government accounts. This is now being passed down to SMB markets as well. That is a huge benefit for secure minded organizations that don’t have hundreds or thousands of devices to monitor.
Kendall: Xerox's security solutions stand out because of their end-to-end approach to security, and a strong emphasis on both hardware and software protection. Xerox sets itself apart with a holistic, layered security strategy—one that protects the document, the device, the data, and the user. This multi-faceted approach, backed by top-tier partnerships and compliance, gives Xerox an edge in environments where information security is mission-critical.
